About this tour

A day on Yellowstone’s Lower Loop shows you many of the park’s greatest sights. Stop to watch Old Faithful shoot water as high as 150 feet. Then walk along the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and watch the Lower Falls drop about 300 feet into the canyon. See colorful hot springs and other hot features at geyser basins such as Fountain Paint Pot, Black Sand Basin and West Thumb. Watch for bison, elk, bears, wolves and many other animals in Hayden Valley and other wildlife spots. If you only have one day in the park, the company says this is the tour to choose.

The route

From the operator's listing, in order. The time at each stop is what the operator gives; wildlife and traffic can change it.

  1. Old Faithful

    About 60 minutes

Watch and listen as Old Faithful erupts 130 feet or more, throwing out close to 5,000 gallons of water. While you are here, look inside the famous Old Faithful Inn, first built in 1904.

  2. Yellowstone Lake

    About 30 minutes

Stop beside the largest mountain lake in the country for a picnic lunch.

  3. Hayden Valley

    About 60 minutes

Drive through Hayden Valley looking for the animals that live there. No animal is ever certain, but people spot wolves, bears, coyotes, elk and bison in this valley.

  4. Lower Yellowstone River Falls

    About 30 minutes

Stop at one of the many lookouts along the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone to see the Lower Falls. At about 300 feet tall, the Lower Falls are one of the most amazing sights in the park.

  5. Fountain Paint Pot

    About 30 minutes

Yellowstone has more than 10,000 hot features, far too many to see in one trip. A stop at one of the geyser basins gives you the chance to see and photograph many of its hot springs.

What is included
